When I prayed for my water to break, I didn't mean the water line to the house! Monday morning at about 5:15 AM we had water gushing into the basement. We are so lucky that we were home and that we heard it. Our neighborhood is older and the water lines were done with a pipe called blue max that has a history of bursting. We knew this moving in and looking back we should have proactively fixed it. However, due to some research we decided right when we moved in to just wait a bit and look into it again once we were settled (and then we just forgot as time went by). Many of the houses with it never have an issue and often it bursts in the yard - not really affecting your house. BUT there is always a risk. In the top picture you can see the cut-out in the wall where the water line comes in and that is where the water spewed into the house. Luckily, it was only on an hour before we got it turned off (problem with getting the main to actually shut off!). AND luckily once Andy moved the couches and removed the book cases from the wall, the baseboards and walls looked fine...it just soaked the carpet and got a couch wet. Since Andy thought he'd be home with a newborn, he was able to stay home and meet the excavator/plumber and shop-vac the water. It is being fixed on Friday and we do have water for now! It's just rigged in a window through hoses, etc. and we only have it on when we are home. CRAZY day/week!
